Association between GNS signature score and patient survival. (a,b) Kaplan-Meier plots illustrate the association between signature score and survival for three independent glioblastoma data sets (a) and three data sets that include gliomas of lower grade (b) (Table 1). Higher scores indicate greater similarity to the GNS cell expression profile. Hazard ratios and log-rank P-values were computed by fitting a Cox proportional hazards model to the data. Percentile thresholds were chosen for illustration; the association with survival is statistically significant across a wide range of thresholds (Additional file 9) and the P-values given in the text and Table 6 were computed without thresholding, using the score as a continuous variable.
